Package: Electric Bus Driver’s Incident Response

This package is for anyone working in the bus industry who is likely to be involved in an incident or accident while driving the bus and needs to learn how to respond to the situation.

The package includes:

Module 1: Introduction to electric vehicles, systems and components
The module covers:

  • the key components of an electric vehicle or bus
  • how to identify high voltage systems and components
  • the critical safety features of an electric bus
  • how to make sure an electric bus is parked in a safe state
  • the types of work that can be conducted on an electric bus in a commissioned or decommissioned state.

Module 2: Connect and disconnect charging systems
The module covers:

  • identify different types of charging devices
  • safely position an electric bus in the location for charging
  • connect an electric charging device to an electric bus
  • disconnect the electric charging device when charging is complete
  • safely initiate initial response actions in an emergency whilst a vehicle is charging.

Module 3: Electric Bus Driver’s Incident Response
The module covers:

  • the initial actions a driver should take to make the bus safe
  • how to safely evacuate passengers
  • how to make sure an electric bus is depowered and declared safe
  • how to conduct vehicle jacking in an emergency situation
  • how to prepare for towing and connecting a recovery unit to a disabled bus
  • safety concerns and issues around the salvage and disposal of electric vehicles.

There is no specific legal requirement to undertake mandatory training in initial emergency response actions for electric bus operations. However, a business or operator may consider it worthwhile to train staff in this and other electric bus training, as part of taking reasonable steps to ensure they and their workers comply with the relevant Workplace Health and Safety laws.

As you work through these modules, you have the opportunity to answer questions and progressively check your understanding, followed by a knowledge check quiz at the end.

Duration: 3.5 hours

Can we purchase the course to host on our own LMS?

Participants are required to complete the course within the TAFE NSW LMS. There is currently no option available to host courses on external LMS platforms.

How do I purchase courses for my staff? (less than 10)

If you would like to purchase courses for your staff (less than 10), each participant will need to complete the checkout process separately (e.g. select the “ADD TO CART” button for the desired course or courses, and then continue through the checkout process). The participant’s details are to be entered in the “ACCOUNT DETAILS” section. The relevant credit card details can then be entered in the credit card payment section. The screenshot below shows an example of the checkout screen and where to enter this information.

The details entered in the “ACCOUNT DETAILS” section will be used to create an account for the participant. The participant will then receive a confirmation email with login instructions. If the course is a paid course, they will also receive an invoice for your records.

If the same PC or device is being used to process multiple orders, please ensure you are logged out after each order is complete.

There is no bulk enrolment method available. Participants are required to enrol by completing the checkout process for the relevant course or courses.
