Surveillance of concrete dams – routine inspections

$210.00 (inc GST)

The course will help you understand the activities involved in conducting routine visual inspections of concrete dams.

On successful completion of this course, you should be:

  • aware of how to plan and prepare for a concrete or masonry dam inspection
  • knowledgeable regarding inspection techniques
  • able to assess the condition of a concrete or a masonry dam and evaluate results and observations
  • aware of what action to take to complete an inspection.

The course is aimed at anyone responsible for conducting routine inspections of concrete dams in NSW but is particularly focused on concrete dams that have been declared by Dams Safety NSW. Declared dams are those that can potentially endanger life downstream, cause major damage or loss to infrastructure, the environment or have major health and social impacts.

It is recommended that you have at least six months experience in inspecting dams before attempting this course.

Note: This course is not accredited, however, it is closely mapped to the Unit of Competency NWPCAD010 – Inspect and report on concrete dam safety from the National Water Training Package.

If you work for an organisation with a declared dam in NSW, after successfully completing this course, you can choose to be assessed for competency in the field against unit NWPCAD010 for an additional fee.

Contact Dams Safety NSW at info@damsafety.nsw.gov.au for more information about eligibility requirements for competency assessments, including the required applied experience.

As you work through the course you will have the opportunity to answer some questions and progressively check your understanding. Complete the assessment quiz and the feedback activity to obtain your CPD certificate of completion.

Duration: 3 hours
