Are you an owner in a strata building? Or is your owners corporation planning remedial building work?
If so, this course is an important starting point to help you navigate the remedial building work process.
Remedial building work includes alterations, additions, repairs, renovations or protective treatment of an existing building. It covers a wide range of repair and maintenance activities, and if the work involves a multi-unit or multi-storeyed building, there may be both remedial and strata provisions to consider.
As the owners corporation, strata committee, strata manager or building manager, you will become familiar with the obligations relating to remedial building work in strata buildings, and the relevant legislation to support and streamline project planning in promoting a successful outcome for remediation projects.
The course explains how the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 (NSW) and the accompanying regulation apply to remedial building work on a strata building.
In addition, it provides explanations of the roles of design and building practitioners and outlines the NSW Planning Portal requirements.
At the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Determine if the DBP legislation applies to remedial building work on class 2 buildings when the work is considered exempt development.
- Recognise the obligations of owners corporations, strata committees, strata managers, and building managers when undertaking remedial building work on class 2 buildings.
- Determine if remedial building work is deemed emergency remedial building work according to the DBP legislation.
- Explain the various roles of practitioners and their responsibilities in remedial building work on class 2 buildings.
- Recognise the NSW Planning Portal and requirements for remedial building work on class 2 buildings.
As you work through the course you will have the opportunity to progressively check your understanding and answer some questions at the end of each topic. Upon completion of the course, undertake the assessment quiz and the feedback activity to obtain your certificate of completion.
