Course Overview

Building projects can be a significant financial investment for everyone. Whether it’s a small renovation or building a new house, these projects involve risks for the builder, contractors, and the customer.

One of the best ways to minimise risk and reduce possible issues or future disputes is to have a fit-for-purpose, well-drafted written contract for your particular project. This is especially true for complicated construction projects.

NSW Fair Trading deals with over 2500 contract disputes each year. Construct NSW has prepared this course to help you understand your legal obligations and use contracts effectively to maintain good relationships with your customers and avoid potentially costly and time-consuming disputes.

In this course, you will learn about building contracts, including:

  • the different types of contracts and choosing the right one for your project
  • how to complete a contract and the information that must be included
  • different contract terms and conditions, such as insurance requirements
  • what you can do when things don’t go to plan, or changes are needed, and how to deal with a dispute
  • all about payments, including how to make a payment claim if you have not been paid
  • the types of records you need to keep.

This course is aimed at small to medium residential building builders, Contract Administrators, and Project Managers in larger building companies and builders with Business-to-Business (B2B) contracts.

As you work through the course you will have the opportunity to answer some questions and progressively check your understanding. Complete the assessment quiz and the feedback activity to obtain your CPD certificate of completion.
